Regardless of what you may think of CGI, you surely must give credit to the computer geeks who create some amazing footage for the big screen.
Case in point Transformers. Sure, it had its faults - like most Michael Bay big budget blockbusters - but the detail that went into those robots and their movement, especially during an awesome no-holds-barred finale, was quite incredible.
What's also amazing is the time in which Bay's production team has been able to churn out another dose of those 'robots in disguise'. See the new trailer below.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will theatres in late-June with the likes of the non-CGI cast of Shia LeBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, John Torturro and Tyrese Gibson from the original 2007 movie as well as Rainn Wilson from TV's The Office.
Not a lot is known about the actual storyline for the sequel, and The Fallen itself, which is an actual character from the Transformers universe, in particular the comics.
His origin is explained in Dorling Kindersley's Transformers: The Ultimate Guide (via wikipedia):
"One of the original 13 Transformers created by Primus, the robot who would become the Fallen betrayed his creator by siding with Primus's dark twin, the malevolent planet-eater Unicron.
"In the final battle between Primus and Unicron, the Fallen fell victim to the same fate as his master, sucked through a black hole into another dimension.
"However, while Unicron emerged in another universe, the Fallen was not so fortunate, finding himself trapped in the "underspace" between dimensions."
So there you go. I remember Unicron from the 1986 animated Transformers movie and him turning a mortally wounded Megatron into Galvatron, but had never come across The Fallen before.
Like the first, Transformers 2 will be big on explosions as well as big menacing robots. It will be interesting to see the Giza Pyramids used as a backdrop this time though.
