That Thing they're doing but they shouldn't

Well, it appears as though that thing we're all dreading is actually going to happen. You know, The Thing, The Thing remake.
Another Thing has been talked about for some months, with many hoping like hell such a thing wouldn't happen.
But, according to Variety.com, a new Thing will be getting made and it will be a 'reimaging' - that thing that Tim Burton started in 2000 with Planet of the Apes.
John Carpenter's The Thing is of course a wonderful thing from 1982, but still, it wasn't the first Thing. That Thing was released in 1951 and featured a different kind of the thing to the thing that was in the latter Thing.
Anyway, this newest Thing will almost act as a prequel to Carpenter's Thing and be again set in Antarctica, but this time at the Norweigan camp that first discovers the thing.
You'll remember some of the Norweigan's trying to destroy the dog that goes running into the arms of Kurt Russell because it's carrying the thing.
What's the bet though the producers will just hire American actors to play the Norweigans - who will speak English, and have American accents.
Variety says studio Universal has hired commercials director Matthijs Van Heijningen to helm the new Thing, from a script by Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ron Moore.
I for one don't think this is a good thing and think they should just leave the goddamn Thing alone. Haven't they got other things to do?
Give me Alien v Predator v Thing and I'm sold.

John Carpenter's The Thing is one of my all-time fave horrors ... and sf movies too.
I'm crying into my husky's fur as I write this ...

Loved Carpenter's The Thing, and I reckon leave it at that - no reimagings, prequels, sequels, versus etc.
In fact, they should leave all of Carpenter's films alone.

I must admit I'm slightly piqued by the idea of telling the Norwegian's story, but what I fear is that all the special effects will be done digitally, and thus the real horror will be dampened ... Rob Bottin's work on Carpenter's movie is without a doubt some of the finest special effects make-up ever committed to celluloid.
Carpenter's handling of the suspense and terror is also masterful. And Ennio Morricone's score is also superb.
Kurt Russell delivers, arguably, his best performance too.
