Farrelly Brothers say 'show us the Stooges'

The New Three Stooges

It seems there is no limit to the extent Hollywood will recycle, with the legendary Three Stooges about to make a return to the big screen.

In need of a hit, writing-directing duo The Farrelly Brothers are set to bring the slapstick comedy trio into the 21st century.

Variety reports the film has already been pencIlled in for a November 2009 cinema release.

"It’s not a biopic. It takes place in present day, and they look, dress and sound exactly like the Stooges," Peter Farrelly told Variety.

Bobby's brother goes on to say, "When the economy started turning, we felt like the world could use a Stooges slapfest.

"Bobby and I haven’t done a real physical comedy in a while, and it’s the most exciting thing we could think of now, to have people go to the movie, see some great slapstick fun family humor."

Can't say I've seen a lot of Stooges work. I know there's much slapping, hitting and whoop-whooping, but the first thing I think of when I hear their name is that episode of Seinfeld.

You know the one about the guy in a coma, Martin. His two-timing latino girlfriend says to Jerry in a thick accent, "You must show me these Stooges".

Well, the Farrellys are about to and they will hoping a few other people will want to see them too. They haven't had a great deal of success in recent times, with their last major hit back in 2003 with Stuck On You.

Their last film was the terrible The Heartbreak Kid (2007) with Ben Stiller, with the mediocre Fever Pitch (2005), with Drew Barrymore, in between.

Now ... just who to play these Stooges ... ?.

Definitely try to see the original Stooges... it's great stuff. I loved it as a kid - but, even now, the slapstick has this sense of fantastic choreography!

Ya can't beat the Stooges!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!! When I lived in West Virginia I was nearly the only kid in my school who could get a Pittsburgh TV station that carried the Stooges on a daily basis. That was a LONG time ago but those were the days. I'm sure all knuckle heads will be looking forward to this!!!! Thanks for posting. Nyuk, nyuk!!!!

There was a bio-pic a few years ago and, believe it or not, Michael Chiklas of The Commish and the Shield, did a pretty good Curly. Larry David would do a good Larry, or you could get Steven Wright because I've always thought they bear a resemblance, and I'm not sure about Moe--maybe an unknown but that would be risky because he would have to have a large role in the movie because he was the leader both on screen and behind the scenes in real life.
I can't really go with the guys in the picture above. Larry is too heavy, Moe is not right, and is that Jack Black as Curly? I could live with him but, he's not my first choice.

Chiklas as Curley ... geez, that is a surprising one.
Yeah, I chose those guys in the pic just purely 'cause they've starred in Farrelly Brothers movies previously - and I thought they look pretty funny.
But, it will be interesting to see who they actually cast though. It's like finding someone to play Jerry Lewis or soemone. Almost impossible.

I Think They Should Get Jim Carrey To Play Moe. I Think He Would Do A Good Job. Maybe Even Steve Carrell. I Could See Both Of Them Doing A Wonderful Job And At The Same Time They Would Sell A Lot Of Tickets! Which, In My Humble Opinion The Title Alone Should Bring In A Lot Of People As Far As Curly Goes, Just Shave Off Seth Rogens Hair And He Can Do It. Larry Could Be The Lawyer From Scrubs
