Wayans bringing Munsters to the big screen

MOVIE NEWS
The Munsters appear set to finally follow their fellow freaks of 1960s television, The Addams Family, onto the big screen.
The Wayans Brothers, the guys behind the original, and mildly amusing, Scary Movie, have told mtv.com they are finalising a script and almost ready to shoot.
No word yet on who will play the family - dad Herman, mum Lily, Grandpa, daughter Marilyn and son Eddie - but, despite the Wayans helming the project, they won't be black.
"If we do anything, maybe we’ll do a cameo, but we’re not gonna make The Munsters black all of a sudden,” Shawn Wayans told mtv.com
"They’re gonna be green, white people just like they were in the TV show. Their characters are still who they were in the ‘50s. It’s just in modern day.”
He should actually have said '60s, as the series began in 1964, but who's counting ...
The last time The Munsters were on the small screen was in 1995 with Here Come The Munsters and featured a perfectly cast, and aptly named, Edward Herrmann as Herman.
Herrmann, if you remember, was the head vampire in The Lost Boys (1987). He's a bit long in the tooth now for the role though.
The original, Fred Gwynne, died in 1993, not long after making memorable appearances in My Cousin Vinny (1992) and Pet Semetary (1991), so sadly he won't be back either.
The Munsters have never been given their own full-length feature film, ala The Addams Family in 1991.
That film starred the late Raul Julia, Angelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd and a young Christina Ricci, and even spawned a sequel in 1993.
"You know, they did The Addams Family, which I thought wasn’t that funny or well-thought out of a show," Shawn Wayans said.
"But they did it ‘cause they had a catchy theme song and turned it into a movie. I thought The Munsters had the real meat and potatoes rich characters.”
I always preferred the Munsters too ... though I don't know if I'll be watching the new movie.

I think everyone who saw this TV show as a kid will make it to this movie, even if its not until its on DVD.
I look forward to seeing what CGI does with it.

With the Wayans it could be hit or miss though - I didn't like White Chicks or Little Man, but actually enjoyed Scary Movie ... but don't spread that around.
Thanks for reading
