GENERAL RAMBLINGS
They just don't know when to quit, do they?
As Star Wars: The Clone Wars prepares to hit TV screens in the US after a poor run in cinemas, comes word another new chapter in the saga may be heading to the big-screen - via a video game.
The Los Angeles Times has reported that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is being spoken about as a possible entry in the blockbuster franchise in the not-too-distant future. Things are a bit vague, but anything is possible.
How does that Abba song go ... 'Money, money, money'.
I was one of the many who grew up with Luke Skywalker, Han and the gang, but then was disappointed with the prequel trilogy etc etc ...
And then even more disenchanted with that whole galaxy far far away after simply seeing previews of the CG garb The Clone Wars. I will not watch the feature length film that was released in August or the half-hour episodes about to hit the small screen, and probably never will.
I have certainly lost track of the other additions to the Star Wars universe - novels, games etc, so don't know a helluva lot about The Force Unleashed.
Checking out good-old wikipedia, Unleashed focuses on the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope when Anakin Skywalker, now fully entrenched in his Darth ways as Vadar, takes on a secret Sith apprentice.
The whole premise sounds pretty cool, and much more interesting than the kiddy-orientated Clone Wars which is set in the time just before Anakin's big turn, a time already portrayed on screen, although not all that well.
What would be interesting is seeing Anakin coming to terms with now actually being a Sith Lord - and maybe how he handles the restrictions on the new duds.
Though the name of his apprentice-on-the-side featured in Unleashed - Starkiller (what the...?) - sounds far too George Lucasy for my liking.
And there's the problem.
The 'master' filmmaker should've stopped at the original Star Wars, and let younger, fresher minds take control from there on.
They did for a time in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, but then Lucas took the directing reins again for The Phantom Menace and we all know how that turned out.
Lucas still had the scent of Howard The Duck for Episode I, and then reeked of Jar Jar Binks for Episode II.
He should certainly keep his smelly mits of any further films. No directing, no writing, no casting. Just put up the money George and shut up.
wiki goes on to say that this Starkiller is really Galen Marek, the baby of two of the fallen Jedi, who papa Vadar raises behind the Emperor's wrinkled old back.
The Unleashed storyline has gained quite a following and as well as the video game has featured in Dark Horse comics and Lego.
The game's project leader, Haden Blackman, was quoted in the LA Times as saying it would be "incredible' to make a movie and not "impossible".
He says Lucas has shown a willingness to tell different sides of the story, in different formats, including a return to the big-screen, and introduce new characters.
Let's hope if it does get a cinematic release, it's neither Computer or Lucas generated.
It might just have a fighting chance.
And what would you call it? Episode 3.5?

The game got bad reviews, though, as the story was flimsy and the gameplay weak.
Lucas is definitely looking to increase the Star Wars presence... it's gotten to the point where the music doesn't excite me anymore..

If you're going to do more at least do something the people might want, and I mean might, and that is Episodes 7-8-9.
