Once great movie rivals, about the only thing Sly and Arnie compete for these days is who can look the dorkiest.
Well, it's finally happening people. Probably 15 to 20 years too late but better late than never.
The subject of my rambling is the fact the two action kings of the '80s and early '90s will be teaming up for the first time on the big screen.
In very exciting news, Arnold Schwarzenegger will be making an appearance in Sylvester Stallone's next film, the promised extravaganza that is The Expendables.
Try saying Schwarzenegger, extravaganza, expendables really fast.
The film, set to start shooting within a month or two, will be a who's who of the action world, with Stallone headlining a cast that includes Jason Statham, as well as Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren.
Also sadling up is Oscar favourite and comeback kid Mickey Rourke, Oscar winner Ben Kingsley, Julia Roberts' big brother Eric and ultimate fighting machine Randy Coulture.
The movie will centre around a crack team of mercenaries, led by Stallone's Barney Ross, sent into a South America to overthrow a corrupt government.
Ain't It Cool broke the news of Arnie's inclusion. The website says he will in fact be playing himself so let's not get too excited about his appearance.
AICN's Harry Knowles writes: "He will be shooting for one day, and it seems that the Gov and Sly's character Barney Ross have some history back when the Gov was shooting Conan The Barbarian".
It would be pretty damn cool if there was actually some fisty cuffs between the two characters however. I'd almost put my money on Sly these days.
I remember when I was kid in the late '80s talk of some big space saga that was to star both Arnie and Sly, as well as Chuck Norris, about a team of soldiers with a mission to protect Earth from alien invaders.
I actually think I remember reading it was to be called Universal Soldier. This was before that particular title was given to the Jean Claude Van Damme-Dolph Lundgren flick of a few years later.
Now there's a name that would just top off this whole Expendables experience - the muscles from Brussels himself JCVD.
And of course good old Chuck Norris should really be getting a guernsey as well, and of course Bruce Willis ... and let's not forget Jackie Chan ... and maybe Steven Seagal ... actually not him.
I don't think I've been this excited about a Stallone movie since ... ummm ... Rocky ... IV.
