Sir Ridley dubs Robin the bad

Looks like production on Ridley Scott’s new Robin Hood epic Nottingham is close to getting a start date. Yep, another Robin Hood movie.
It’s been 15 long years since the last spate of robbin’ from the rich and givin’ to the poor by a bunch of merry men.
That was Mel Brooks’ spoof Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), starring Cary Elwes, which followed Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), of course with Kevin Costner and his American accent in the title role, which came out after Robin Hood (1991), the little known version starring Patrick Bergan and a young Uma Thurman.
There has been a British TV series recently, but Scott (Alien, Gladiator, American Gangster) is planning to bring Robin back to the big-screen in a whole new way – as the villain, and the Sheriff of Nottingham as the hero of the day. The film will also involve the standard love triangle between the two combatants and that floozy Maid Marion.
Russell Crowe is believed to be on board as the Sheriff, and Sienna Miller as Marion, while Sam Riley (who played British rocker Ian Curtis in Control) is rumored to be in the running for Robin.
Flavour of the month Christian Bale was a name thrown around early on for the part, but you’d have to think he’s got a bit on his plate at the minute as Batman and John Connor in Terminator Salvation. That’s enough iconic characters.
Scott is said to have been keen to get the project up and running for some time. According to reports it has recently been delayed by a combination of script problems and the fact Sherwood Forest (where filming will take place) has not been green enough until now.
The script for Nottingham incidentally is from Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris (Kung Fu Panda).
Sounds like an interesting take, especially with the versatile Crowe, if it ever sees the light of day.
