Knowing it could actually be a good Nicholas Cage movie

Nicholas Cage in Knowing

Nicholas Cage has been churning out the films of late - without the greatest strike rate.

Just in the last couple of years there has been World Trade Centre, The Wicker Man, Ghost Rider, Next, National Treasure the Book of Secrets and Bangkok Dangerous.
It's not the greatest collection of films, but his next isn't looking too bad.

It's called Knowing, which, for some reason, makes me think of The Happening - maybe kind of like it's prequel.

Anyway, it's being described as a "gripping action-thriller of global proportions" by the producers anyway, who might be a little biased.

Cage stars as a professor who stumbles on terrifying predictions about the future and sets out to prevent them from coming true.

In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students are asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule. But one little girl fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers. Maybe she thought it was the maths test?

Fifty years later, the school's current students examine the capsule's contents and the girl's cryptic message ends up in the hands of young Caleb Myles, and then his father Ted, played by Nicolas Cage

Ted makes the chilling discovery that the encoded message predicts with pinpoint accuracy the dates, death tolls and coordinates of every major disaster of the past 50 years.

As he further unravels the document'sg secrets, he realizes the document foretells three additional events the last of which hints at destruction on a global scale and seems to somehow involve him and his son.

When Ted's attempts to alert the authorities fall on deaf ears, he takes it upon himself to try to prevent more destruction from taking place.

Usually I try to avoid Nicholas Cage movies these days - there's more interest in how he has his hair - but I will be giving this one a look - more so for the fact it is being directed by Alex Proyas.

The Egyptian-born Australian -rasied director is at the opposite end of the scale when it comes to making pictures. His last major release was I, Robot (2004). But the guy has got some talent, being behind the under-rated sci-fi Dark City (1998) and of course The Crow (1994).

The movie was actually shot in Australia, at locations including the Camberwell High School in Melbourne.

Proyas' got a couple of other Aussies on board Knowing as well with Rose Byrne playing the role Diana Whelan who hooks up with Cage's Ted and Ben Mendelsohn

The film will be released late March.

Knowing would be so much better if Richard Kelley (writer/director of Donnie Darko) would have stayed with the project. Back in 02, he was slated to direct this, back when it was still an untitled work.

Hey Taylor I didn't know that about Kelly, though his track record since Donnie Darko hasn't been great.
Thanks for reading.
