Introducing the new cast of Star Trek

MOVIE NEWS
Paramount Pictures has released the first offical pictures from the new Star Trek movie, helmed by JJ Abrams, and to be released next year.
While I've never been much of a Star Trek fan - liked the campiness of the old TV series, but bored by the abundance and monotony of the most recent small screen offerings - I'm fairly intrigued by the Lost creator's attempt to reboot the franchise.
Abrams is taking a kind of prequel approach, with Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise newbies when it comes to space flight.
The movie stars relative unknown Chris Pine in the lead role made famous by William Shatner, as well as perfectly cast Zachary Quinto (Sylar from Heroes) as faithful sidekick Spock the Vulcan.
The marketing campaign will no doubt crank into top gear soon, but just to get the juices flowing, Paramount has made available a few shots. See others here.
Making up the crew is Simon Pegg, a welcome inclusion as Scotty, New Zealander Karl Urban as Dr 'Bones' McCoy, John Cho (Harold from Harold and Kumar) as Sulu, Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Anton Yelchin as the Russian Chekov.
The movie will see Aussie Eric Bana as the main villain of the piece, Nero, as well as Wynona Ryder, Bruce Greenwood and Leonard Nimoy as old Spock.
Judging by the picture below young Spock seems to have a certain amount of Sylar in him.

Never seen Pine before but looks suited to the role of Kirk and like I said Quinto (who I enjoy watching in Heroes) I reckon is perfect for Spock, and of course Pegg is great as the comedy relief Scotty. As long as he gets enough screen time.
I'm sure JJ will have a few more surprises up his sleave story-wise too.

I have been trekking since I can remember ... through all the franchises too, so I guess that makes me a BIG fan.
As most devoit followers of any franchise, I was dreading a sequel~Prequel~remake... but I have to say, this looks like it just may work.
I am excited!

id be a bit dubious about Abrams taking over the franchise, im not a fan of Lost, all massive drawn out story arcs like Days of Our Lives and nothing interesting or resolved on a per episode basis

I think I got in my head when I was really young, you were either a Star Trek fan or Star Wars fan... couldn't be both ... lol. And I already had all the Star Wars figurines past down from my brother.
I also thought I wasn't allowed to be Australian too - 'cause I didn't like Vegemite ...
Still don't like Vegemite, but looking forward to the new Star Trek.

Yeah, Lost has certainly 'lost' me in recent times. Was a fan, but reckon they should've made it a nice compact two seasons, maybe three.
As for Star Trek, I didn't mind Deep Space 9, with the female captain.
