Pan's Labyrinth

Pan's Labyrinth--Life is a cruel fairy tale.
It gave audience a mark as The Chronicles of Narnia at first sight. Then when you track the traces of blood into its deeper darkness, it reminds you of the Spirited Away all at a sudden. However, after you hold your breath till the last tone of its siren's song, you then realize that it is not a fairy tale thing, it is neither a life stuff. It is a cruel fairy tale of Life.
This movie can string every audience's heart with the lightest sigh and the softest kiss. When the little girl Olifia running into the darkness of forests, climbing into the blankness of roots, fainting into the bleeding palace of the baby-eater, you can smell the dirtiness, the helpless and the hopeless.
No happy ending, No princess and prince forever happily living together, No beast turning into prince. At last, all the audience get is a slight piece of sadness, and a huge relief for the ending of a night mare.

to add to the chorus, I loved your poetic review very much. It has captured me heart enough to go and hire this film... I missed it when it came to the big screen and had forgotten about it.
Again, your review is very good in making me want to see what it's about.
Cheers,
Lilla ..

Great review. I saw this film a little while ago and your review certainly does do it justice. I love fairy tales that stray away from the norm.
I don`t think it would have quite the same effect if it had been in English either.

I finally caught up with this film last week. A measure of its worth is the fact that my subtitle hating children ("I don't read films!!) sat through till the end without complaint (much in awe I think).
Still some debate over the fantasy/fairytale/reality in my house: but I agree wholeheartedly with your review. Life as a sigh.
