SEE Owen Wilson as The Greatest American Hero?
While Robert Downey Jnr is locked in as the title character in the upcoming Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes, Jude Law is in line to play Dr Watson.
Variety has deduced Law is close to signing a deal to play the famous detective's loyal side-kick.
Ritchie is planning a new take on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle creation, which will see Holmes as an ass-kicking sleuth by virtue of his martial arts skills.
"It will be a very big production, visceral and intellectual," Ritchie told USA Today. "His brilliance will percolate into the action."
The main villain is expected to again be Professor Moriarty however. Latino Review reported recently Russell Crowe was being sought to play him.
The movie should be released sometime 2010.

I liked Without a Clue, with Michael Caine as a drunk Holmes in 1989 and Ben Kingsley as the real sleuth, Dr Watson. Interesting take.
