Branagh a sight for Thor eyes

Kenneth Branagh is getting excited about directing the next superhero off the rank, Thor. He just isn't exactly sure what it will be called yet.
In an interview with MTV to promote WW II epic Valkyrie, in which he stars alongside Tom Cruise, Branagh talked about what he was up to next.
“I am directing 'Thor' or 'The Mighty Thor' as you might like to call it ... I think it will be 'Thor',” the 46-year-old Brit said.
The Shakespearian specialist and the legendary Marvel Comics character are certainly an unusual pairing.
Branagh's not someone you would normally associate with superheroes - more Kings (Henry V), Queens (Hamlet) and the odd monster (Mary Shelley's Frankenstein).
But, he seems to be very passionate about the project that will be the Norse warrior's first big outing on the big screen.
Branagh said what attracted him to making a film about the helmet-wearing, hammer-wielding Thor was a chance "to work on a story about one of the immortals, Gods, extraordinary beings, inter-dimensional creatures.
“There’s science fiction and science fact and fantasy all woven into one. It’s based on Norse legends which Marvel sort of raided in a brilliant way."
Thor is set to link-up with fellow Marvel characters Ironman and Hulk, seen this year, and eventually Captain America, with all set to appear together in an Avengers film scheduled for a 2011 release.
Branagh reckons the movie will be 'big'.
“It’s a chance to tell a big story on a big scale,” he said. “It’s a human story right in the center of a big epic scenario.”
Thor's alter ego is a partially-disabled medical student Donald Blake, who is really the son of a Norse God called Odin.
Branagh says he still has no idea who will play the blonde-haired Scandanavian-style Thunder God though.
"There’s been lots of talk [about casting) ... but we are too early at this stage,'' he said. "We’re getting the story and the visual effects together and all of that is very exciting. Someone sensational is going to play the part but it is early days.”
Brad Pitt (Achilles-style), Daniel Craig (who has apparently declined an offer), Gerard Butler (300), wrestler Triple H and the hot favorite Kevin McKidd (Rome, Dog Soldiers) have been the names doing the rounds on forums about the topic.
Thor is to be released July 2010.
Whatever happens it's got to be better than this ...
