6 Movie Kids Who Freaked Me Out

ANOTHER LIST
I watched way too many horror movies as a kid. By and large I became immune to the effect they are supposed to have on the viewer.
However, there are a few that got me and get me now. They usually involve kids in one way or another. Afterall, kids say the darndest things. And, in movieland, can do the deadliest ...
Let's take a walk down memory lane, or that darkened corridor upstairs.
6. Carol Ann from Poltergeist (1982)
Why: Two words, "They're here". I don't want to start things off on the wrong foot, this list is more about those bad little kiddies of big screen land. Carol Ann was a victim, abducted by the family home's live-in evil spirits. But, the way she was so calm about everything just sent chills down your spine.
Chilling moment: "It lies to her. It says things only a child can understand," says the psychic. "To Carol Ann, it simply is another child, but to us it is ... the beast." When I was a kid watching this ... I really didn't want to be that kid.
5. Tomas from The Orphanage (2008)
Why: You'd wonder why you'd let a kid create something so bloody creepy in the first place. Young Tomas has a deformed face to cover, so does it with a matching deformed mask made from an old sack. Even an ice hockey mask would've been better. Been done.
Chilling moment: (SPOILER) While Tomas has long since drowned, his sack mask has been found by another young boy, Simon, who dons it so he crush his mum's hand in a door then push her into a bath. Well, it would be hard to see what you were doing out of that thing.
4. Damien from Damien: The Omen 2 (1978)
Why: The continuing adventures of the young anti-christ Damien Thorn, now 12 and off to military school. That was a good idea. He's on this list purely for the fact that ... I looked exactly like that kid when I was about the same age and watching it for the first time. I found myself looking through my hair and trying to find three sixes. I didn't fin any. But I still look.
Chilling moment: Young Damien is a busy boy indirectly or directly causing the deaths of no less than 11 people. One is crushed between two train cars, another hit by a truck after their eyes are plucked out, and another cut in two by an elevator cable.
3. The Mutant Children from The Brood (1979)
Why: I remember catching a glimpse of this film when I was probably no more than about eight or nine. Those kids! They scared the living shit out of me. It's one of master horror director David Cronenberg's earlier pieces about a crazy doctor who is creating an army of freaky children ... from rage. No, not love. Rage. Cronenberg was going through a messy divorce when he wrote this.
Chilling moment: A bunch of the mutant children bash a teacher to death with a mallet. School's out! The kids' matching parkas and snowpants are pretty scary too. Plenty of flat-out disgusting moments, headed by the infamous birth scene. Check it out. But not alone. And not with kids in the house.
2. Samara from The Ring (2002)
Why: Who never looked at their TV the same way again after watching this movie. Video star killed the TV viewer. You know those annoying emails you get that if you don't forward to 10 friends you will have bad luck. Well, this movie basically replaces the email with a video, and the bad luck part with a gruesome death at the hands of a little girl. If I got that thing ... video night at my place! Everyone's invited!
Chilling moment: Samara, in desperate need of a haircut, loves to make a big dramatic entrance - crawling out of the TV. The real scary part is what she does to you after popping in for a visit. Why the long face?
1. Regan from The Exorcist (1973)
Why: Look at the photo! Holy crap! What more do you need to say. Hands down the scariest film of all-time. Again, watched it as a kid. Regan's demon-possessed face burnt into my thoughts while trying to get to sleep at night. It doesn't help when, as a child you hear it was based on a true story. Oh my God, it could happen to me! Mummy!
Chilling moment: Regan had the face only a mother could love, including the foulest of mouths. So many great lines. Here's one, "Your mother's in here, Karras. Would you like to leave a message? I'll see that she gets it." Oh, how nice.
